daichan, kichan is meeting me at the pool in an hour to do some swimming exercises! do you want to come???

[She found out about the prom from Yachi, and while they'd only been students for a short while, there was absolutely no way she was going to pass up on the opportunity to get all dressed up and spend time with her fellow students! Especially since so many of the sports people at the "meat and greet" were at the school as well.

So she decided to corner Aomine, when he was in his room for the evening, knocking on the door instead of just barging in (she had manners, after all!).]

[she makes sure to wash her face with cold water, holding cupped handfuls of it against her eyes to try and reduce how puffy and red they are. if she goes in there and makes it obvious that she had to stop halfway between their houses to bawl her eyes out in frustration, aomine is actually, literally going to kill kise. it's still obvious that she's been crying, but thank god it doesn't look as bad.

carrying a half-empty bottle of water in her hands, she approaches his door, knocking short but insistently.]

[this place clearly has it out for them, or they've wound up in some sort of horrible rom-com universe where you always find yourself pushed towards the person you're fighting with, like karma thinks it's absolutely hilarious. first, she'd been teamed up with kise for hide and seek (which was, by nature, not that hard to suffer through since they were hiding the whole time). now, aomine just spent an awkward evening at "speed friending" right next to kise.

she'd been able to see their table from hers when she got up to move around, and glimpsed the two of them sitting across from each other, eyes averted and painfully silent.

urgh. it made her heart hurt just to see.

needless to say, he'd come home and gone straight to his room, and that just didn't sit well with her. he was taking this a lot harder than she was expecting, but then again, he was all bark and no bite; he was just as sensitive as her, when you got down to it. so she'd cajoled their papa into making his favorite food (his beloved teriyaki burgers) before he left for germany's for the evening, and with a plate in her hand and her laptop tucked under her arm, she went to his room, knocking on the door.]

Aomine-kun. ( doot doot. ) It's Riko. I'm forming a basketball club, and Satsuki has agreed to manage it. You'll be joining, of course! ( IT ISN'T. A QUESTION... )

[so. she and kise making up was definitely a thing. and while she knew she needed to tell aomine, part of her felt...a bit nervous. he could hold a grudge a lot longer than she could, and while she knew it would take him time to come back around to kise, she was kind of scared of him avoiding her as an extension.

that was probably why she put it off, waiting until the next evening to even bring it up. it was starting to become customary, almost, to seek each other out in the evening once they'd retired to their respective rooms for the night. trying not to show any outward signs of nerves, she knocked on his door.]

[summer had been, up to this point, lazy and almost listless. she'd been helping makoto at the sports center, working with the basketball club, and occasionally lending a hand at the flower shop, but time without school or tournaments to train for always left her feeling a bit...not exactly bored, but like she wasn't doing enough. like she should be doing more to occupy her time.

so when she saw the news about the summer cookout, she knew that it was a good excuse to get out of the house for a while. and if she was going, aomine was going.

knock knock, guess who's at your door.]

[and whether aomine sends back a reply or not, kise's knocking. repeatedly. until it's answered.]

[Helping at the sports center had gone better than expected, even if she ended up being gone all day due to the rather lengthy break she and Makoto took in the middle of their work. It felt familiar to spend all day working on training schedules and recommendations, so even if she was tired, it was a content kind of feeling, combined with the kind of emotional weariness that wasn't exactly bad, just present.

Shaking her hair out of the ponytail she'd had it pulled back in all day, she climbs the stairs, tossing her bag into her bedroom before going to Aomine's, knocking on the door and popping her head inside.]

Daichan, I'm home!

[it's morning, and momoi has only just gotten her task assignments for the day. the first task is easy, and she actually has something already that would work. the second one, too, shouldn't be a problem. hopefully.

thank god she has some of aomine's old clothes that she'd stolen away for a long while in her wardrobe. she comes back into his room, flopping on the bed and prodding him in the forehead.]

[while momoi didn't end up planning it this way, the night before aomine's birthday, they ended up sleeping in their own rooms. all week, she'd been getting up early to practice with italy to make sure she could do everything for breakfast herself. it would end up being more of a brunch, of course, because what kind of birthday would it be if she woke him up at the crack of dawn?

so she took her time, making sure the pancakes are perfectly browned, the eggs over-easy with the yolk still perfectly in tact, the bacon perfectly crisped. neither of them usually ate breakfast, instead opting for energy bars or something fast, like cereal, on their way out the door, but this. it would be nice for a change, right?

putting all the food on the tray italy had left out for her the night before, she made her way up the stairs, balancing it against her hip as she let herself into his room.]

Daichan~ [she says it in a sing-song voice.]

[ time passes weirdly in holly heights; one can easily lose his or her grip on the days when it doesn't correlate to the ordinary day-to-day things -- school (the kind they are accustomed to), and basketball, to name just two. but whatever the weirdness, kuroko tetsuya remembers what 8/31 means to him in any version of a world and sees fit to leave a neatly sealed envelope in aomine daiki's mailbox. it is politely addressed, sealed on the opposite side with a sticker mildly resembling a small black cat. inside, a briefly inked letter reads:

hello, aomine-kun.

first, happy birthday. i hope it's very joyful for you. two, you will find five
vouchers here for teriyaki burgers. they do not technically serve them at
the place around the corner, but they kindly accommodated my request in
terms of your birthday present. i have something else but i would rather
give that face to face. please let me know a good time for you.

i am glad i met you aomine-kun. i am glad to know you.

with most of his name scribbled out, there are distinct eraser marks all over the paper, no matter how neatly folded and immaculately packaged it was. ]

[one of the things that momoi had recieved as part of her prize pack was something called a "regain", which she had absolutely no experience with. it was supposedly something special that could be brought to holly heights from their home world, but...she didn't really have anything overly sentimental that she wanted.

but aomine did!

so she'd asked for his jordans, and sure enough, one day they just...appeared, showing up in her closet, nestled between her hilariously smaller sandals and tennis shoes. it was afternoon, and they'd both just got home from the sports center, which means if he wasn't in the shower, he was probably about to nap or reading something. she picked up the shoes, hurrying to his room and knocking on the door.]

Daichan~ I have a surprise for you~!

Aomine-kun, what name do you suggest for a tiger?
